Now, it's highly possible for a gay man who hasn't discovered his true self yet to skip on getting his wife pregnant. But the important thing here is that you were still able to arrive to a conclusion that you are really gay, and that it's now time for you to come out of your closet to tell the world what you are. So it's understandable why you would suppress your true feelings just for the sake of those things. It's pretty common for them to teach the next generation that being gay is equal to being bad.
Then there's the fact that previous generations have yet to embrace the idea of homosexuality. Another would be religion, although this would most likely be included with culture, as religion is a big part of a country's culture as well. A lot of cultures out there look down upon gay men, as they believe that a man should only and always be with a woman, and not another man. First would be because of cultural reasons.
After all, there are a lot of factors as to why a person would not be able to discover his true sexual identity even through all the years. Surprisingly, discovering that you're actually gay years after you've been happily married is more common than one might think.
